
Dr Channa Jayasena

Channa Jayasena is Head of Andrology Services, and a Consultant in Reproductive Endocrinology at St. Mary's and Hammersmith Hospitals, London. He is also a Reader / Principal Investigator at Imperial College London. His clinic specialises in the treatment of all patients with complex or rare reproductive endocrine disorders. Dr. Jayasena qualified in medicine at Cambridge University, after which he undertook specialist training in Diabetes & Endocrinology in London and performed research at Imperial College as a Wellcome Trust Clinical Research Training Fellows and subsequently NIHR Clinical Lecturer. In 2018, Dr. Jayasena was awarded an NIHR Post-Doctoral Fellowship investigating the metabolic regulation of male infertility. He leads an internationally recognised research group developing improved ways of treating male and female reproductuctive disorders such as infertility, low testosterone (male hypogonadism) and menopause. Dr. Jayasena is led for the Society for Endocrinology (SfE) Specialist Endocrinology Network for Andrology, and has led or participated in development of various clinical guidelines.
Dr. Jayasena has particular expertise in:
Men: low testosterone (male hypogonadism); male infertility, azoospermia, hypogonadotrophic hypogonadism; sperm induction with gonadotrophins, selective oestrogen receptor modulators; anabolic steroid withdrawal; gynaecomastia; microsurgical testicular sperm extraction (mTESE)
Women: PCOS; HRT for menopause; premature and complex menopause; hypothalamic amenorrhoea / RED-S; oligomenorrhoea; amenorrhoea; infertility
Couples: advising couples on their fertility, considering their medical history and test results e.g. hormones, semen analysis
Adults with gender dysphoria: feminising and masculinising HRT in those diagnosed by an experienced gender specialist.
